February 2010 - EX-OFFICE ASSISTANT’S PROMISE TO RUN COMPANY HOLDS TRUE
One of the region’s leading publishing companies has taken on a new director as part of an ambitious plan for growth in 2010.
Lyndsay Jones, who was previously Business Manager at CiA Training, has become a joint shareholder in the Sunderland-based company, alongside founder and Managing Director Ian Chapman.
The progression of Miss Jones, who is 27 and from Sunderland, marks another milestone for CiA Training, which has transformed from a successful IT training company into one of the region’s most prominent educational publishers since its inception in 1985.
Ian Chapman, Managing Director of CiA Training, said: “Our other founding member Brian Waldram retired in 2009, and for some time we have been thinking about succession planning within the organisation. Lyndsay has been with us for 10 years, and joined the team as Office Assistant. I distinctly remember asking her in an early appraisal what she expected to be doing in ten years time, and her answer was ‘your job!’.
“Over the years she has become an essential team member who has enabled us to transform the business into a serious player in the areas of educational publishing and training resources. Whilst I am not going anywhere yet, I’m delighted to have such a dynamic individual alongside me at the helm of the company as we enter this new phase.”

CiA Training, which employs 9 people from its base at the North East Business and Innovation Centre (BIC), has over 400 titles in its product portfolio, which are supplied to a global client list, including both further and higher education bodies, schools, local government, health care, corporate companies, training organisations and individual learners.
In 2010 the directors are planning to increase their presence in secondary schools with a focus on new GCSE qualifications, whilst further developing their burgeoning e-learning and digital range.
